A Message From Lee Thompson
Article 1, Section II, Paragraph 1 of the Georgia Constitution reads as follows:
"All government, of right, originates with the people, is founded upon their will only, and is instituted solely for the good of the whole. Public officers are the trustees and servants of the people and are at all times amenable to them."
I believe that any person who holds public office or aspires to hold public office should read this provision of the Georgia Constitution on a regular basis. The "Government" is not some unknown bureaucracy in Atlanta or Washington. The government is you and me and the people we elect to represent us. The Government consists of our friends and neighbors who serve as police officers, fire fighters, teachers, park directors and public utility employees. All of these people work together to provide services for the good of the entire community.
I am running for State representative because I believe that the citizens want elected officials who want to be public servants. The citizens expect their elected officials to make their decisions based on what is fair, just and in the best interest of the community as a whole. They want elected officials who use common sense and make decisions that are reasonable. I believe that the citizens have become frustrated with elected officials who are more concerned about which party proposed a particular idea or who will benefit from a particular idea than they are about whether the idea is a good idea that will be beneficial for the citizens of the community.
Over the next few months, as I campaign for election to the State House of Representatives, I pledge to listen to your ideas about how we can make our state government more responsive to the citizens. I will share with you my ideas about how the State needs to deal with issues involving education, taxation and ethics in government. I look forward to listening to your ideas and sharing my ideas with you as this campaign goes forward.
Sincerely,
Lee Thompson
