About Lee Thompson

Public Service

Lee Thompson was elected State Representative for District 104 in November of 2008, and took office on January 12, 2009. His District includes the City of Lawrenceville and the surrounding area. Lee serves on the Judiciary-Non-Civil, Natural Resources and Environment, MARTOC, and Information and Audits Committees in the House. He also serves as a whip for the Democratic caucus.

Family

Connie, Rebecca and Lee ThompsonLee Thompson is a native of Gwinnett County and resides in Lawrenceville with Connie, his wife of nineteen years, and Rebecca, their twelve year old daughter. Connie holds a Masters Degree in Experimental Psychology from the University of Texas at Arlington and is a 1994 graduate of Leadership Gwinnett. For a number of years, she served as Operations Director of mediation services for the Gwinnett Branch of the Justice Center of Atlanta. After Rebecca’s birth, Connie became a stay-at-home mom who serves as a parent volunteer at Rebecca’s school and devotes many hours to children’s ministries at church. Lee and Connie are elders at the First Christian Church of Lawrenceville, where Lee has served in many leadership roles including Chairperson of the Administrative Board.

Rebecca is a student at Richards Middle School. She enjoys math and is a member of the band. Rebecca loves music and plays soccer at the local YMCA.

Professional and Civic

Lee is a member of the law firm of Thompson & Sweeny, P.C. He received his undergraduate degree from Mercer University (1978) and his law degree from the University of Georgia (1981). Lee has practiced law in Lawrenceville, GA since 1981, and serves as City Attorney for the cities of Sugar Hill, Duluth, and Grayson. The law firm also serves as attorneys for the Gwinnett County Board of Education.

Lee has been representing most of his local government clients for more than twenty years. Lee has also handled zoning and land use cases for private clients including developers and adjacent property owners in opposition to zoning changes.

Lee received his certification as a mediator in 1989, and has mediated numerous cases in the Gwinnett County area. His mediations have included a number of condemnations, tax appeals, and land use matters. Lee serves on the Board of Directors of the Justice Center of Atlanta, a non-profit organization that provides mediation services and training.

Lee was a graduate of the first Leadership Gwinnett class in 1986, and has been active in many civic organizations through the years including the Red Cross and the Gwinnett Tech Foundation.

Political

Lee has been active in State and local politics for many years. In 1976 and 1978 he served on the campaign staff of Congressman Ed Jenkins. Later he served as Campaign Chairman of the campaigns of Bartow Jenkins who served as a Gwinnett County Commissioner and as Mayor of Lawrenceville. Lee has also served on the Executive Committee of the Gwinnett Democratic Party and on the State Committee of the Georgia Democratic Party.
