Thompson makes bid for State House

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Lee Thompson has qualified as a candidate for the Georgia House of Representatives in District 104. Thompson, a Democrat, is a resident of Lawrenceville.

Announcing his candidacy, Thompson said, "I have decided to run for this office because I believe that serving as an elected official is one of the highest forms of public service. Like many of our citizens, on the last day of the legislative session I was embarrassed to watch our legislative leaders engaged in name calling and political positioning while they failed to address urgent issues such as transportation, trauma care and tax reform. It is my hope that I can use my twenty five years of experience as a local government attorney to help create common sense solutions to the challenges facing our state and local governments. I believe the citizens want true public servants who put problem-solving ahead of political fighting."

During his campaign, Thompson plans to highlight several issues where he believes state government can provide better service to its constituents, including local control, health care, education funding, transportation planning, and increased transparency in government.

Thompson was born in Lawrenceville, and currently practices law with the firm of Thompson & Sweeny, P.C. As an attorney, he devotes the majority of his time to representing local governments. The clients of his firm include the Gwinnett County School District, and the cities of Duluth, Sugar Hill, and Grayson. He holds a Bachelor's degree from Mercer University and a law degree from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Connie, have been married for eighteen years, and have one daughter, Rebecca. Thompson is a member of Lawrenceville First Christian Church where he serves as an Elder and Chairperson of the Administrative Board.
