I have worked as a local government attorney and as a certified mediator for many years. As a local government attorney, I advise elected officials and appointed officials on a wide variety of legal matters. As a mediator, I help parties resolve their disputes through negotiation rather than litigation. In both of these roles, I have learned to help people with differing opinions work toward a common solution to their problems. I have learned that when individuals focus on their ultimate goal and their points of agreement rather than their differences, they are much more likely to reach agreements to their disputes. I believe that an effective legislator must consider each piece of legislation on its merits and decide whether the legislation will be good for the citizens of Georgia rather than considering which party proposed the legislation or what special interest group supports or opposes the legislation. I am hopeful that I can use my knowledge of local government and my skills as a mediator to help bring legislators of all parties together in support of common sense legislation.
